Just updated to 4.2 and now I get this error when opening a project that contains a quicktime movie that was playing fine with direct show.

Can not play video file.
Code 0x80070020
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Any ideas? I'll probably convert it to .avi or roll back to 4.1.

Hi, this happens to me too. I've just spent the last 2 years sorting out QT problems and finally everything was working until this update.

I guess that's one of the first things I'll try when I update...

Are you using QT-Alternative by any chance? Which version?

I've had great success so far with QT Alt 1.68 (I think), and then installing QT.

Check this: http://forum.nuendo.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=18319

Hope this helps!

As I said I've solved the problems in earlier versions....
upgrading to ver 4.2 changed everything.

And may I ask what your solution was? (For earlier versions)?

I just wanted to get back to work! So I converted .mov to .avi. and removed quicktime (which was causing N4 to crash every time I'd start up, causing me to have to restart N4. After that, everything ran fine). The picture doesn't look as good, but I'm working again. I finally had quicktime working great too and it was a PITA to deal with last night. I give up on quicktime as they purposefully cripple performance on PCs. I'll probably convert EVERY quicktime movie to .avi from now on.

I opened up the old project after installing quicktime alt and it worked OK. There were times when it would stutter, but only occasionally. Still, the picture looked beautiful and worked fine with QT in 4.1 :(

QT via Directshow must be via the QT Alternative codec.
Maybe N4.2.2 updated the QT lib. OR you guys at the same time installed the latest QT that was released yesterday.

I would think a reinstall of the correct QT alt. lib. would get working again.

Other than that: Decklink here we come!

I have the same exact problems on a quad-core. It's ridiculous.

I have Vegas Movie Studio Platinum and there are about 10 million ways to render video. What settings do you use to render to an .avi file? Every time I've tried, it's come out three times as large as the original file.

Thanks!

I did check 3 projects with different QT movs and they are all still playing in 4.2.2..
I use QT Alt 1.68 as Andrew was proposing.

Well, now the QT movie plays back ok, but I had to uninstall QT and reinstall QT alternative. I know you can have them both on the same machine if you install QT alternative into a different directory.

I LUCKILY converted my quicktime movie to an .avi using AVS video tools. Didn't have a lot of options but I'll look at what I did. My project come out smaller (300 megs) (though not as good a quality) than the quicktime movie (2 gigs). It's a MAC world apparently (for music). I'm just living in it.

Ok, now it's working. My solution was to uninstall everything. :-D

The only thing installed on my machine now is the K-Lite Codec pack.

Oops, I take it back. Some files still doesn't work properly.. I feel like I've just stepped back 2 years . First, import video file with "Don't launch QT on start up" chacked. Save project. Uncheck "Don't launch.." Restart nuendo, and play the video....

I'm going back to 4.1, wake me up when it's over...

As I suggested, you might want to try and give QT-Alt 1.68 (not newer) a chance... install to its own directory.

When you install the latest QT (to another directory), you will also gain the benefits of QT Pro through having ALT installed.

Sorry to hear about the issues, had the same problem here (not updated to 4.2 yet though). Took me a day to try different combinations.

Hi guys,

About a year ago, we received a nice but compelling request from Apple to not advertize or mention the QT alternative anymore.
Same goes for all the websites that offered the QT Alt codec.
So it is to be expected that some incompatibility issues are going to pop up with every new QT release.
If you know what I mean ...

Yet another reason not to buy into them. :(

Probably because of the Codec Pack.
These are honestly not a good idea at all, as the will seriously screw with DirectShow/DirectX (similar, but not quite the same thing) - and the Quartz.dll file in particular.
(Quartz.dll is the core of the DirectX system)
They also alter merit ratings - which is how DirectShow works - by adjusting the Merit ratings between "MERIT_PREFERRED_+256" and "DO_NOT_USE"
There are a number of interim stages as well.
Please google for a Filter Manager for DirectShow - they are out there - but be very careful as getting this wrong can seriously screw with the system.
It's better to adjust one at a time only.

Maybe my memory is poor but I think one of the things promised with N4 was QT via DirectShow? Nevertheless, the reason I (we) need those different filters is because we need that picture on the wall. ;-) Without spending hours converting to different codecs.

No it's not a good solution installing various filters that mess with the setup but it's the only thing working for now.

And regarding my latest problem it's definitively a Nuendo issue because it happens without any codecs installed as well, Nuendo won't even recognise the file type. But when I try with N4.1 and same setup it works fine.

This was a QT H254 video, usually a sure shot.

All right, I'm back! Just installed the latest K-lite codec pack and that seems to have solve it, for now. Will get back if there's any more issues.
