Hi,

I own a version of Nuendo 2, and have also used Nuendo 3 and Cubase SX3.

I have been looking to upgrade to Nuendo 4 as a possibility. I've notcied there's a lot been said about the NEK. I find it difficult to take the view that not including those features makes Nuendo, a premium software, cheaper for those who don't need them. Plus the discount is slight when considering the price of Nuendo without the NEK. That's my 2p and I don't want this thread to turn into a rant about NEK!

I may need the NEK features, but actually I'm wondering whether Cubase 5 would better suit my needs.

Is there a direct comparision of the features of both Cubase 5 and Nuendo 4 anywhere? Spec by spec, so I can look through and see where Nuendo 4 might have things I need that aren't in Cubase. Can't find one on the Steinberg website...

I use Nuendo firstly as a multi-track recorder to record through a RME fireface 800 up to 16 channels of audio simultaneously, up to 96Hz/24bit. I record large ensembles, brass band, wind orchestra etc.

Then I will use Nuendo to edit this recording, crossfading together different takes, possible slight pitch adjustments on notes and even been known to add the odd hit of Midi percussion, timpani, cymbals etc.

Reverb may be added using VST to the overall mix on the main L+R outs.

This will then be mixed down and mastered with in Nuendo. Then burnt to CD (Can Nuendo burn a CD yet?? :-) )

I'm almost tempted to stick with Nuendo "just in case" I need the features..... i.e. video, maybe some production for radio broadcast, plus Nuendo 5 might be amazing (especially if there is no need for NEK)

Any pointers would be great

Cheers

Dan

Know that Nuendo 5 is around the corner which will add much more Nuendo exclusive features, among all C5 features that Nuendo 4 is missing at this moment.
And if automation is your thing, then I should defenately keep my eyes on Nuendo.

afaik the new automation panel is exclusive to nuendo. as is edit mode, the post filter, networking, etc. if you need these functions i'd stick with nuendo, if you don't then c5 would make a lot of sense.

cd burning can be handled by any one of dozens of apps.

Thanks for the replies,

I know CD burning can be done with other apps, but would be nice to have it in Nuendo, Magix Sequioa can do it.

Is it possible to get the networking features in Nuendo working over a broadband internet connection?

There is another reason to stick with Nuendo, to impress clients! I've had comments such as "This looks a lot like Cubase". I think my reply was something like that Nuendo was the high end professional version of Cubase, which impressed them!
